3 Tips for a Green Nightly Routine

Most people think going green means investing in an electric car or starting a compost pile. But for many apartment residents, taking steps toward an eco-friendly lifestyle isn’t drastic and can be as simple as making a few changes to your nighttime activities. Western National is here to suggest a few simple ways you can be more eco-conscious between dinner and bedtime.

1. Go for a Walk Instead of Watching TV

After dinner, it’s easy to put up your feet and settle in to watch your favorite reality show. Going for a walk instead is not only a great way to get some exercise, but it lessens your home’s energy usage as well. So, instead of turning on the TV after dinner, unplug it and take a stroll. The best part? Walking has tons of health benefits and is a great way to decompress after a long day.

2. Unplug Unused Appliances and Lights

Speaking of unplugging appliances, your TV isn’t the only thing that may be eating up energy while you sleep. Devices like computers, coffee machines, lamps, wireless routers, printers, and so on can (and should) be unplugged when not in use — especially at night. By simply unplugging them before bedtime, you’ll avoid unnecessary energy consumption for as many hours as you sleep each night.

3. Leave Your Kitchen Sparkly Clean

We’ve all been there. It’s late and washing the dishes is the last thing you want to do. While it’s totally understandable, letting your dishes sit out can actually make it hard to wash them later — even if you’re using a dishwasher. By washing your dishes as close to dinner-time as possible, you’ll use less water as you clean and create a more sustainable dish-washing routine

Adapting to an eco-friendly lifestyle with a green nightly routine is much easier than you may think. In fact, small changes to everything from the areas mentioned above to your dental care can help lessen your environmental impact.
