3 Eco-Friendly Pest Control Life Hacks

No matter how hard we try to keep our homes pest free, they always figure a way inside. Instead of going down to the local big box store, and hosing every surface down with toxic chemicals, why not try these simple eco-friendly life hacks on for size? They’ll get rid of your pest problems, without leaving a poisonous residue on your counters and carpets.

#1: Apple Cider Vinegar Gets Rid of Bugs

Gnats, fruit flies, and other insects can be a huge pain. Worse, they can make your entire place feel grungy, and unclean. Rather than using bug spray, set out a glass of apple cider vinegar. Put plastic wrap over the top, and poke holes in it. The bugs go in, but once they get wet, they won’t be able to climb out again. A no-muss trap that won’t hurt anyone in your household.

#2: Use Citrus To Repel Ants

Ants are one of the most difficult infestations to get rid of, but if you catch them early, you can keep them out. Ants will avoid citrus, so if you have some lemon juice, you can spray it into their entry point to create a hostile environment.

#3: Keep Mosquitoes Away

If you’re going to be outside for any length of time in the spring, summer, or fall, mosquitoes can be an issue. However, instead of hosing your skin down in bug spray which you then have to breathe in, try wiping your skin down with a damp dryer sheet. You’ll need to re-apply this treatment as you sweat, but it will make you a lot less appetizing to mosquitoes looking for an easy meal.
