Cleaning With Essential Oils

Do you have to wear rubber gloves to handle some of your cleaning products? If you’re afraid of what they will do to your hands, imagine what they are doing to your lungs! Traditional cleaning products are also bad for the environment in the way they are created, disposed of, and packaged. Are you looking for greener cleaning products that are better for your health and the environment? Make them yourself! Create a clean, fresh smelling home using essential oils. Here are some great techniques to try.

Shower Doors

To clean your shower doors, and prevent future build up, use lemon essential oil. Apply 2 to 4 drops to a soft cloth (a great opportunity to upcyle an old t-shirt!). Wipe down all glass and shower doors. Do this 2 times per month to prevent build up.

Toilets

Combine 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil and 2 cups of water in a spray bottle. Spray inside the toilet bowl and let sit for 30 minutes before scrubbing.

Windows

Mix 2 ounces of water and 10 drops of lavender essential oil in a spray bottle. Wipe clean to clear away grime from the glass.

All-Purpose Cleaner

Fill a spray bottle three-quarters full with water, add a few squirts of all-natural plant-based liquid soap and 3 to 5 drops of lavender essential oil. Shake before using, then wipe clean with water.

When selecting your oils, be sure that they are labeled “essential oils”, and that they are not petroleum-based. These are the best quality oils for cleaning!
